Hey guys so I have a 1998 Ram 150 4x2.Here's the problem when I make turns the front suspension groans and creaks.When going over bumpy surfaces I here something shaking or something.I don't really know much about suspensions but I was told maybe ball joints or coil overs are bad.When I go over regular bumps on the road the truck suspension doesn't absorb it,instead I sounds more like a slam to the front of the truck.Any help would be appreciated.I'm 18 and am still learning.PM me with any help please.

As far as the groans and creaks when you turn it is more than likely your balljoints. My 2wd does the same thing. Look and see if your dust boots are all torn up on your balljoints. If they are that's more than likely your problem.

 

To check to see if your ball joints are what is making the creaking noise jack up the front of the truck and get the tires off. Then take off the tie rod arms to the steering knuckles then try turning the whole knuckle assembly. If it was tight when turning the knucle by hand then you definently have bad ball joints. This will affect how the truck steers too.

 

Time to revive an old thread once again! Hey guys, Just installed my 3" front and rear skyjacker lift a few weeks ago and now my rear end not only squeaks when I go over bumps, but also there is a clunk!. Even before the lift, when I would go over a bump that was not parallel to my rear axle (so one tire after another) I would hear a clunk. If I jacked up the rear and pulled on one side I could hear it clunk. I was told this was normal?
Now just moving the rear up and down by jumping on the bumper I hear a clunk, could it be because I didn't get longer shocks for my lift? I know ORE shocks are beefier but not longer... any help? thanks guys!

 

See if you can find where the clunk is coming from. Might be as simple as re-torquing the shock mounts.

 

^Yeah. Additionally, all bolts related to the spring swap, like the hangers and shackle. Get a 2nd person to do the jumping while you be under to look/listen.....

 

Got my brother to jump on the truck while I checked and it was my lower shock mount. Re torqued it and clunk is gone! That still leaves that other clunk I've had even before the lift. I can replicate it by grabbing a tire and pulling it from side to side. If I take off the tire and bull on just the hub it's the same noise. I've been told that this noise is normal?

 

Where is the noise coming from? The hub? If so, that is NOT normal. Means "time for a new one".
