Default Add ATF through the Dip Stick hole?

New to my 97 Dodge 1500 5.9L with 207k on the ticker. I checked the tranny fluid the other day and it appeared to be low. And when laying underneath, the bottom of the tranny pan looks wet. Kind of like the tranny pan gasket leaks.

Being that I am new to Dodge, and I know that Tranny's are the soft spot in their armor, can you tell me what to expect? Do I add ATF to the tranny through the dip stick hole? What kind of ATF do you suggest? And how much ATF should be in the Dodge tranny?

ATF+4,and yes it goes into the dipstick tube. While running in neutral with the e brake on. Only add a small amount while filling and rechecking.

running in N with e-brake engaged. ROGER! Add ATF+4. ROGER!

If it was barely showing on the stick to begin with, should I expect to get more than 1 quart in it?

Shift it thru all gear positions with engine running ending in neutral before checking.

Some, like myself, would disagree. I've heard of tranny shops not wanting to rebuild trannys with Lucas. But to each his own.

I have never seen an independent testing lab find any real benefit to any additive, oil or tranny. Most say they are a waste of money.
