Removing ball joint from axle tube yoke?
#21
NOT! LOL It's kind of hard to line up something straight onto something that is not straight. Bottom line is he got it done, just would have been easier with the right kit. I have a Master BJ kit, and to do DANA axle BJ's, there are clearly different cups . I too am guilty of recommending renting the kit from AZ or wherever, but for the DANA axle it is not a standard 4x4 kit.

Here is a pic of the yoke less ball joint......and the angle.
FWIW I was looking around and found some kits for the dana 60 years 2000-2002 only.....
What makes these years so special.
The site also said without this press the 00-02 are a witch to press out...
Again lucky I guess..
Again I appreciate the help guy's I think I know why my ball joints don't fit now..
I guess I got a limited edition....LOL

You gotta click the "insert image" icon at the top of reply forms, and put the link in there.
Zman, I know what you're talking about, makes sense.
I recall seeing those angled cups, as far as I recall I didn't use em and had no probs ,,, Though its possible I used
them without remembering, been almost a year since I did them.

And btw VTEEN, I looked on Rock Auto's website, and not only do they not show an 8.0 in a QC, but if you look under regular cab they show two different BJ setups. It seems there is a regular duty axle and a HD axle, both Dana 60's. You have to find out if you have a 4500lb axle or not. They even have the cups for the angled BJ's.

Hmmm, don't know what to say.
Mine came out & went in easy as can be without em - 3 of them did, anyhow.
My first lower I was trying to press it up instead of down, that didn't work out too well.
Learned the lesson tho, and the next one didn't stand a chance.
I can't comment much on V's procedure without being there, there are lots of things you can do to make it hard on yourself, including putting your jack stands on stacked 2x4's when its not necessary.
Some guys have them tack welded in without knowing it, you'll kill yourself trying to get those without grinding the welds first.
Use anything but the exact correct combo of cups/rings/adapters, which can be tricky to assemble, you'll not meet with success.
Its not just 1 thing that can screw you up.

I guess it is possible like you said, that you used the angled ones without realizing it when you were lining things up.But ,it's all good now anyway. As long as the Yankee's win tonite!
