Removing ball joint from axle tube yoke?

99% chance I didn't use the angled cups.
I distinctly recall seeing them, thinking "WTF are these for", and never even taking them out of their spots in the case.

They pressed in fine.
It was getting the lower and only the lower that was a pain..
And it was due to the fact that the yoke had been peened over by the guy who did this a couple of years ago and he just pressed the new one in to the deformed yoke...
I didn't notice it till after I had pulled out the lower and saw flats on the top 1/4" of it.
When I looked at the yoke I could now see the peened area on top under all the rust and saw the ripples in the steel on the bore.....
Used the chainsaw file to take the burrs off the top...
I should have known I got the wrong ball joints when I didn't get the snap ring in the kit.. I even asked a second dodge dealer about the snap ring not being in the kit ( when I picked up the new hub bolts) and he pulled the prints and showed me...... no snap ring
Again special truck I guess...
BTW the jack stands were on 2 12x12 pieces of 3/4" black walnut, the jack was there but was not fully loaded, It wasn't going anywhere..... Lifting it to that point was a bit nerve racking.
I broke the 2 lower bolts on the CAD but oh well such is life.......That's a whole other thread.

Glad you got em out V, now it will be much easier next time !
Don't forget to grease em up.
Wasn't knocking you for improvising, sometimes you gotta do what you have to do.
That is taking somewhat of a chance though, and now you know, an unnecessary chance.
As long as wheels are properly chocked and jack stands are on level, solid surface, there shouldn't be any unexpected problems.

The sticker on the door frame says GAWR front is 5200 GAWR rear is 6084.
So would this be a 4500 front end or a 5200?
I know its a 8800 truck from the VIN
It also confirms that it is a quad cab (per the VIN)
I argued with the guy at Advance when he said there isn't a QC v10 (per his computer)
He also said I didn't have a Universal joint on my front axle (which is why I was there)
I went out to my Blazer, and brought the whole assembly in and said What do you call this?
I've been a bit sarcastic to the parts guy's around here recently with this whole situation....
Any way the universal had cups that were 1.375" diameter again special truck.....
BLAH BLAH BLAH I could go on and ..........
I think I'll purchase those cups from rock auto too for next time, I'm still going strong on the factory ball joints on the drivers side, which is why I went ahead a spent the extra on the DANA Spicer ball joints for this side, only time will tell.....

Uh ,,, You probably know this, but BJ's are best off changed in sets.
Reason is obvious - If you were having problems with one set, the other will likely not be far behind.
Anyways, non standard parts or whatever can be a royal PITA.

Technically, they must have been right, because their computers said that is what I need, but it sure as hell wouldn't fit my rear.
Still never resolved that issue, am hoping my shoes will last the winter.

The other set.... well Massachusetts potholes are always on the passenger side..
I've checked the drivers side and they are still tight.
and for my truck at 150 to 200 bucks a set I'll wait till they need it...
Which knowing my luck will probably be next month........LOL
