haha, you cant hurt 10mpg. if only these people knew the cost of ownership of a 10mpg truck, and 30mpg prius. cheap? my @$$. Im sorry i would replace my 100 battery everyday for the rest of my life before i even thought about buying a prius. (or test driving one for that matter)
and i could find about a million other things to buy with $25,000. Like a fully built crate motor with a forged rotating assembly, a cam, twin turbo'd, a full MSD 6A ignition, high flow heads, you know all that good stuff. i may not see my return on it right now, buy when my motor gets 200K miles i know ill be good. how many times in my 200K miles will you replace batteries in your prius?
more math....
well it'll take me ~16.5 years to rack up 200K miles, at 12K miles a year. by my judgement, youll replace the batteries in your prius, AT LEAST 2 times, hahaha. that 14K you just spent on replacing batteries, i just spent on buying another fully built crate motor. and i still have money in my pocket.

i find it funny as to how my fire breathing 318 gets 14 MPG
and so does the wimpy V6 in my sisters F0rD exploder
she trys to argue that her motor is more efficent than mine
duh, your getting the same mileage as me, making less power on 2 less cylinders, i'd say my 318 is more efficent
she knows nothing about cars, she can't even changer her own oil, dad has to do it for her (i'd do it but being 250 miles away makes that kinda hard, oh and im too much of a fatass to fit under her little SUV)

this makes me think of this article http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/...tml?page=0%2C2
"Think about it," Goodwin laughs. "A 5,000-pound vehicle that gets 60 miles to the gallon and will do zero to 60 in five seconds!"

the batteris in a prius cost more to make (which involve parts and labor from 5 different continents, so think of the ocean tankers usage there) and generate more pollution that it does to build and drive a diesel H1 for over 250k miles. and the prius hasnt ever been built to last more than 100,000mi.
the only thing i would trade my truck in on is a 2500 cummins
this is what happens when the general public gets to stupid to know how to change a tire, and the only thing they do is listen to big govt and big business. im movin to Antarctica!

Although I agree with everything you stated, I think the actual figure of 12000 miles a year is quite minimal for most people.
I find it funny though, I calculated out how much money I have spent in gas for my truck since I bought it 10 years ago (160k miles), and it was $26,666.667 (averaging $2 a gallon and 12 MPG). That is damn near more than I paid for it hahahaha
