Why spend the money on a cat when you can get a O2 sim, a non-fouler, or zip-tie the O2 sensor to the frame or tranny(personally mine is zip-tied to the tranny)
ps. talking about the post O2 sensor not the precat

I have been running my truck with my O2 sensor zip-tied to tranny since the beginning of the summer have just over 3,000 miles on it no CEL hasnt flickered and if he doesnt redo that section he can go to a local hardware store and pick up a plug for the hole no more than a couple dollars
would it give you a cel if you unplugged it and just took it off completely?
i've always been under the impression that the rear o2 needs to sniff some but not too much exhaust to keep the light off.
I didnt think it would work until I ran around for a month with it like that and it never threw a CEL so when I did my exhaust I never had them put in a O2 bung for it

just for the record, you have an early model with OBD2/OBD1 mix, since 96 started ODB2 in all passanger car, and 97 for trucks, and the early models you were able to do things such as this, but with the newer OBD2 models(98+), it wouldnt work and you would have a constant CEL.
