What "extras" are you talking about that makes a jacked up price sound so sweet, getting the lines flushed ?
You might be willing to pay it, you might be willing to pay twice as much, knock yourself out, thats you.
He asked for opinions, he got em, and don't expect everyone to agree with yours.

Magnum, some more [perhaps unwanted] advice.
Since this guy has torn it apart, he should have a near exact idea of what needs replacing and/or reworking.
You should get an itemized list, including brands, of all the components he plans on replacing.
Knowing this, you can get at least a ball park idea of what the parts themselves are going to run, maybe even adding 30% or so for markup.
The balance will be the labor - He should also have a pretty good idea of how many hours this is going to take to do, so if you get those figures and it comes out to $200/$300 an hour labor, you know you are getting jacked.
yup he said ill get a list of everything, along with the warranty papers after its over. and thanks for all the advice, none of it was unwanted as u mentioned above, i appreciate everything everyone has said.

oh and YOU may not pay $2000 for a tranny, but u have to realize area plays a big part in labor rates....shops near me get $100 or more an hour, and as I said this was the low end of the estimates so this is what it is. I agree $2000 is a lot, but thats what I have to work with. again i appreciate the input but its not like i got quotes of $1500-$2500 and am going with the $2500 just for ****s and giggles....

All I see from your post is "Blah blah blah, MY ***** ARE FREAKING HUGE, BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH".

I don't care if you would never pay more than $499.99 for a rebuild -- it all boils down to LOCAL LABOR RATES, the price of replacement parts, the price of UPGRADED parts, the type of transmission, and if any kind of warranty is included. I live in Oklahoma and can guarantee you that the price for labor is cheaper than New York (where the OP is located), and California. Those are just two examples. My transmission rebuild probably would have run me over $2,000 had I upgraded the torque converter, but it was more costly because I upgraded to a shift kit and was lucky none of the electronic parts were bad. You start talking replacing the electronics and the price is really going to increase.

And with that,

Exactly! xray I appreciate the input but no matter how many times I say it u dont seem to get that my area is just pricey for this stuff, I havent even bothered mentioning Im getting an hd torque converter, among other things that arent usually included such as an hd cooler, etc. because all u see is that its over $2000. This is what Im faced with. Its a reputable shop and again, as stated above that u also seem to keep missing, he said $2500 as an estimate ASSUMING THE WORST. It could very well end up being $2000. The price is what it is. In your area $1500 or less may be the average price, and thats great and dandy, but I dont live in your area. Like VWanddodge has said and like I have said, area plays a big part and replacment parts play a big part, plus what u get. Many places dont give a warranty. Im getting one, but juts saying. You have to consider everything, not just the number of $2500 and say "Oh thats just crazy."

Don't sweat it.
your right ...In my case because I didnt see those extras mentioned when the thread started....I thought it was for a rebuild period..which $2500 is high ...even for NY I live there too...You could buy a reman outright for that . but if you factor in the additional stuff you want done it seems like a fair deal.
