Whew! So I disconnected the battery, rotated the crank clockwise, and heard some rattling in the rear of the engine. Took off the starter, flex plate cover, and what do you know, out falls a sheared bolt head!

All of my bolts holding the flexplate to the Torque Converter are snapped off! Not bad troubleshooting only 20 minutes in it. Looks like I get to keep my motor!!

Real glad to hear your problem had an easy fix!!! Since your gonna have to take the tranny out to fix that, it might be a good time to replace the freeze plugs as well.

It started knocking hard out of nowhere so I pulled off and looked under the hood, saw nothing, then shut it off. Never started back up.

Oil is fine, water good, trans good, and yep, there's windshield wiper fluid too. I'll dig into it later next week as I have a work truck. The Ol' Lady say's I need to ditch the Beast and get a 6.7 Cummins. I think I have too much invested in the thing to walk away now. Any thoughts?

You have to wonder why the bolts are sheared, don't you?

I have upgraded almost everything from the rear main seal back to the axle shafts. When I slammed the new trans in, I re-used the T.C. bolts. I had to shim the T.C. off the flexplate about 3/16 to get my pump seal to seat correctly. I bet the factory bolts and the fact that they were in only 8 threads instead of 11 threads was the reason.

Whenever you upgrade one part, there is a direct effect on other parts. That's why you can keep your 8 inch lift and you 40 inch tires.
