serpentine belt, smells like burning rubber
So I changed my belt earlier today, went great. I started the truck, everything seemed fine. Went for a drive, came back, and noticed a burning rubber smell. I double checked to make sure it was on correctly, and it is. I also checked to make sure everything is turning the way it should be, and it is. It doesn't appear to be rubbing anywhere, and the belt is not hot. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing? It would be greatly appreciated.
I changed it because the old one was, for lack of a better word, old. Hadn't been changed in 5+ years. Worn out.
And what do you mean what is the tension set to?
I wasn't aware you could set the tension.

Thanks again for the help guys.
Could one of the pulleys be bent? Or the bearings on one of them be broken, or would this cause the pulley to wobble?

What kind of belt did you buy? Belt might not be any good, I have bought a bad belt before. If it didnt do it before then i would have to say its very unlikely that a bent pulley or warn out bearing is the problem. Perhaps the tensioner isnt tight enough and the belt is slipping.
From your first post, you said everything looked right.
I'm guessing you eye balled it while idling.
If a pulley was wobbling, that would not look or sound at all right and the whole pulley system would likely spin apart in seconds or minutes.
I doubt if its the tensioner.
They don't fail often, when they do the belt would be too lose, not too tight.
Just because you smell rubber doesn't necessarily mean its related to the belt.
Follow the smoke is all I can say.

Everything smelled fine, then i changed the belt, then rubber smell occurred. There is no smoke. I'm totally stumped by this. I'm going to take it to someone who knows what they are looking for.
Thanks anyway.
