Ideas on compressing front calipers?
my 2000 has dual piston calipers. and they don't stop the truck worth a damn if your star adjusters are a little loose.
for the hub replacement,
a shower with a good penetrating fluid will go a long way.
the socket is 1 11/16".
factory torque was 185 ft-lbs. the new spec is 175 ft-lbs.
a 3 or 4 foot piece of pipe to put on the end of your 3/4" breaker bar will go a long way. a lot of people break 1/2" breaker bars on that nut.
i used a big combination wrench for leverage on the end of a 1/2" drive socket wrench to get the three bolts out of the back of the hub.
and a screwdriver or prybar in the rotor slots resting against the caliper is better than having someone stand on the brakes because then you don't need a helper. so crack the nut before you remove the caliper.

+1 on the penetrating fluid... and +1 on the 3/4" breaker bar...i myself have broken a 1/2" drive ratchet on that thing when breaking it loose. what i did was use the pry bra and stuck it in the axle u-joint.

But if you don't believe me, go to a parts store and measure them.
I think you'll find thats a pretty accurate comparison. I've handled both designs in the parts business for years. They're as different as chivy and Dodge, except that the early calipers fit chivies too.

I'm not knocking your knowledge of the parts at all. Just that pics themselves don't always tell the whole story. They look plenty different, but if one were pictured closer than another, it would be hard to know.
Hey, its all good.
Sometimes its good to prove it to yourself though, that's how I've had to learn.
So while you're out grabbing those great holiday bargains, stop by a parts store and if they're not covered up, ask to look at the parts.
