Default What's different on a sport model than a regular 1500

So I'm cruising around the accessories part of ebay and see some relatively priced brush guards. As I'm looking at them some of them say will not fit sport model. Now I know that in 99 the design of the sport model changed with different bumpers and headlights along with a painted rear bumper.

As for my truck its a 98 that was built in 97 so I'm assuming that it is only a 1500 with painted bumpers. But my question is what would be so different to make a brush guard not fit a sport model? Unless they are referring to the off road editions.?

I apologize if I didn't title the thread correctly. If it is incorrect please let me know or change it.

I think what they mean is that the brush guard will not fit a sport "without modifications to the sport bumper." I could be wrong though. I just know that a lot of the brush guards out there require the sport bumper to be cut a little.

Hmmmm that's interesting. I wonder what modifications would need to be made?

This has been discussed at length and could have been answered by doing a search. Most manufacturers are too lazy to do the research and simply state "will not fit Sport models" when the reality is that only the '99-up Sports are significantly different. Earlier models are nothing more than a color-matched bumper and accessories should fit without problem.

That's why I asked I didn't see anything in a search about it. Maybe I wasn't asking the right questions. My bad Miami.

Ok, since Miami is always pissy about these kind of easy search threads, I'll make this thread relevant and useful in a search.

From 1994-1998 the Sport package included:
SLT Laramie trim group (You could also order it with the SLT Plus trim)
Color-matched front grille and bumper
Fog lights
Color-matched tailight bezels
Roll Pan (Very rare; Most Sport Rams came with a rear bumper, but a roll pan was standard)
or Color matched rear bumper (Optional)
"SPORT" decal on rear bedsides
Flame Red, Black, or Aqua green "RAM 1500" door emblems

The only difference between '94-98 Sports and regular SLT Rams were that the bumpers were color matched. All accesories made for a 1994-2001 Non Sport Ram will fit a 1994-1998 Ram Sport.

The 1999-2001 Ram Sport included all of above except (below) which are different:
Color-matched urethane front bumper
Color matched grille (Was different than SLT design)
All emblems were replaced with a outline decal design
"SPORT" decal moved to hood sides

Any accessory made to fit on the front bumper of a 1994-2001 Ram will not fit a 1999-2001 Ram Sport, as the bumper and grille were different.

LMC has all of the parts for the Sport front end, though?

Here is a picture of a 1994-1998 Ram Sport:

Oh crap, I forgot about the headlights!

1994-1998 Ram SLT and Sport trucks had the same 1 bulb headlights. 99-01 Sport headlights are 2 bulb/housing and are compatible, just with some wiring.
