Default parking brake

well today i got my truck back from inspection and they said my parking brake is not working so.. FAIL and they told me that its probley the gear in the foot pedel thing (idk wht you call it) that ingages the parking brake. I thinck they are right because i have checked it and it dosn't make the rachet sound. Anyone have any ideas on wht it could be and wht its called. And if its the lever assabley how might you go about takeing it out and replaceing?

Does the brake apply if you hold it down?
If you never use it the ratcheting mechanism might just be rusted up and not allowing it to lock in place.

Check to see if the cable is still attached or in one piece . Could be disconnected from the foot lever or at the rear or just broke. Im sure its has some rust they all do.

If it engages your all good hurry and get your inspection before it locks up again

good post I am doing a restoration and I have the same issue, if you push the emergency brake in the light on the dash comes on and the lever stays in position but has no effect. everything is connected got bigger projects to do before I worry about was gonna do a search as well and see what i find.
