I am really not sure exactly where it is inside the tank. I would think it would be easy to spot once you're in there. I don't think the light would come on if the sensor reads full. I doubt they would put in a second sensor just for the light, since the odometer would be the backup for the tank.

on my white truck the gas guage is messed up to. if i fill it up it goes to full, and stays on full until half the tank is used then starts going down. and now at half a tank, its empty. but if its on "F" then its actually half a tank or more, in the tank. I haven't bothered to fix it i just know to fill her up if it almost at half a tank, cause that is now empty. its a 1997 with the 5.2

Funny,...my trucks been showing signs of fuel level misreadings too, (I've had this truck now for...6-weeks). While showing 1/4 tank on the guage,..I put in $40 bucks more to get it to 3/4. It fluctuates between 1/4 and 1/2 to 3/4 and back.....previous owner hit a deer on gas tank fill up side, (He banged dent out a bit). So I beleive yes...a big jounce, bounce or bang...can fu*k up your intank equipment.

That's just from the fuel "shloshing" forward, (when you hit the brakes), causing the float to sway up....showing more fuel,.. and then "down"ward when you hit the gas...(reverse effect). Also...I believe the low fuel level "eye" you're talking about... actually operates by the float hitting a certain "low" point (low fuel causes the float to go to bottom of tank), causing the eye.. "sensor" ....actually a connection to be completed..which "sends" a signal to initiate the low fuel light on the trucks instrument panel. Therefore:...In the "Dodge" (Chrysler Corporations), company wisdom,...along with most of the other auto makers,...you need to go and buy a new "sending" unit. BUT,..you really don't (NOT THE WHOLE UNIT THAT GOES INTO THE GAS TANK FROM THE TOP needs to be replaced if money is an issue),....just the "fuel sending" portion,...but sometimes it's more feasible,... since the tank is out anyways ...), to replace the WHOLE thing.

Mine is knda finiky too. I'll be sitting at a light (usually the same one), I'll look down at the gauge, and it'll slowly "twitch" on it's way down from about 3/4 full to about 1/4 left. Light turns green, I look in the mirror and I don't see half a tank of gas on the pavement, so I feel fine.
