Default Overdrive keeps turning off

Hey guys I have a 2000 dodge RAM 2500 5.9 v8 gas with 140000 miles on it. I just bought it a week ago and there were no problems until today. I had been driving for about 20 minutes at about 60 miles an hour and all of a sudden the overdrive turned off on its own. I couldn't get it turned back off until I pulled off the road and turned off the engine. I turned it back on and everything was fine until about 20 minutes later it turned back off again. The engine temp was still low the whole time and the transmission is acting fine otherwise. Any advice would be appreciated.

*Update* When I was driving back home it turned back off again after about 20 minutes. I tried turning it back on but to no avail. I pulled over and cut the engine, turned the engine back on, overdrive was still showing as off, cut the engine again for about 2 minutes this time, started it, overdrive was back on. I drove for about 5 minutes and it turned back off again this time with the check engine light turning on at the same time. I pulled over and cut the engine, restarted it, both lights were still on, cut the engine, waited 5 minutes, turned the engine back on, and only the check engine light was on. I drove all the way back home (a 30 minute drive) and the overdrive stayed on the whole rest of the way, but so did the check engine light. The temp outside was about 46F and the engine temp was totally normal, I'm stumped....
