Default Tranny makes noise in gear

I have a 95 dodge ram 3500 with a 360 and an automatic transmission. It has been making a whining sound when I put it in drive and reverse, but dosn't do it in park. I also have fault code #37. And I dont think the transmission is shifting into O/D because it seems to be running about 3500 rpms at 65mph and when i push th O/D off button nothing happens, no light and no down shift. Thanks

The problem with the light could be its just burned out in the gauge cluster. Does the truck upshift when you press the button?

No there is no change in rpm's or shifting going on in the transmission when I hit the button.

the tranny SHOULD be shifting into o/d. when you press the button is when it shouldn't.

Yeah, I know, it dosn't do anything when im going down the road and push the button. I dont think the transmission is shifting into O/D at all. I was just wondering if that code 37 had anything to do with it.

Look up Code 37 in your Haynes or Factory Service Manual.

what you're saying is backwards. normally the transmission always has o/d engaged UNLESS you push the button which then and only then will o/d be disengaged.

as far as the code...heres the website i use for my fault codes...

http://dodgeram.info/Engine-Gas/OBDI/pcm_fault_code.htm

thats for OBDI systems, i figured you have OBDI since yours is a '95.

edit: my o/d button is screwy too. i usually end up having to push it consecutive times for a bit to get it to work, then after a while, it works first try.

Code 37 is the lock up circuit for the torque converter. If you are getting noises in all gears, you my have a bad front pump and torque converter.

I understand him perfectly hes saying it makes no difference whether the button is pushed or not its having no effect on rpm's at 65mph.... your seeing the glass half empty , he half full...
