Default Second Cigarette Lighter Outlet

A few months ago I blew its fuse (I think). I'm to the point now where I need two and can't find out where the problem is. I pulled all the fuses on the side of my dash and none of them were blown.

Owner's manuel will tell you which fuse it is.Sometime you can't tell if it's good or bad by looking at it.

If none were blown, then I'd say you've shorted the wiring to it. It's a common aliment, and a PITA as well. When you use either plug for more than basically a heating element for a cigar, you run a risk of this happening.

For years (Including our rams), when Dodge engineers recommended a certain wire gauge, the financial side of Dodge would budget for a cheaper/smaller wire. Example- If an engineer recommended a 12 gauge wire, the end product would have a 14 gauge wire. Overall, this limits the overall amount of amperage allowed through. Course, this wasn't the only way Dodge cut corners as we all know. At least they had quit using weaker bolts where stronger ones were needed by the 90's.

I recommend you pull the dash bezel off and inspect the wiring for a short. If you can't see any signs from that angle, then always remember that you can test for shorting via the fuse box on the side of the truck to limit the issue's location. IE- Behind the dash, or firewall and beyond.

If you don't mind telling, what are you plugging in them? There might be a better way, without damage to your wiring.

I can't remember what it was exactly since it has been awhile but I did hear a pop at the time. I'll have to go out and check my owners manual and see what I can find. My top outlet works fine but if all else fails I'll just go to Wally World and get one of those 1-2 outlet things for like $10.

I got mad because both of mine only work when the key is on and every time I was charging my phone when I turned the key off my phone quite charging so I put my own in and wired it to the batt.

Did you even read my post? A 1 to 2 outlet is going to cause you issues, but you know what? I don't care. It's your truck. Just don't come back and complain about your regular power outlet not working when it happens.
