That's usually the PCV line. Most CAIs have a fitting for it or include a nipple so you can drill a hole and mount it to the intake tract.

Umm, thats the crank case breather hose. The PCV goes to the intake manifold. fatchance82 HOW about filling out your profile or sig ? So people know at least what the hell year your truck is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PCV valve=Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve, aka what the crankcase breather hose attaches to.

+1. Crankcase breather hose. It allows gas pressure buildup in the head to escape out and be reintroduced back into the intake to be reused. It's an emissions thing mostly.

i put a standalone breather in its place, b/c my 14x3, it ain't gonna hurt it to have it undone, only difference is the oil vapor is vented to the atmosphere instead of your engine = your air cleaner stays...well...cleaner longer

Yes, but on our engines, the PCV routes directly into the side of the intake manifold, not to the air cleaner assembly. It is just a simple crankcase breather (non PCV) that goes to the air cleaner assembly. Our trucks only have one PCV.

What's your V10 got?

Good question, I'll have to check. My K&N CAI came with a nipple for the hose, but I never looked to see where the other end went.

FYI, in states that have smog inspections (like mine) venting the crankcase vapors to the atmosphere will cause you to fail the visual inspection and is illegal. Open air cleaner elements (like a 14X3) directly mounted to the throttle body are also illegal here because of evaporative emissions. The entire system has to be closed.
