DIY: Fog light Mod 96' model year
Ok I was tired of turning my high beams on when needed and being able to light up stuff far away but not being able to see right infront of me so I was looking around this site and could only find a fog light mod for 98 and newer model years so I did some research and some testing on my truck and found a way that worked for me
First off my truck came with factory fog lights and thats what this pertains to.
I found out that their are two relays for the fog lights one that controls the shutoff with the high beams on and another that deals with the switch and powering them.

Now the fog light relay #1 is the relay that controls the high beam shutoff I figured this out by turning on my high beams and fog light switch and taking out both relays, when putting in #2 nothing happend but while putting in #1 it flickered so I took that one out
At first I bent the #2 tab on the relay then I put it back in the slot and made sure it worked it did so I bent the tab until it broke off(the one on the left has the #2 broke off it says next to the tab what number it is.

Then you can take that relay you broke the tab off of and reinstall and you should have foglights that now work with the High beams on
The first picture is lows with foglights and the second is the highs with the fogs on

Will take pictures later tonight to show difference after dark

cool.... too bad I now have 100w headlight bulbs and highs with fogs would likely not be safe to run with the wimpy factory wiring...I was always under the impression the wiring was not safetly rated to handle the factory highs with the fogs and that was why they were disabled when you turned them on to prevent wiring from burning up?

Power from the headlight switch runs thru relay 1 at pin 30 thru to 87a which is closed when relay 1 is not energized and pin 87 is open., pin 85 is grounded.
Pin 87a then runs to pin 86 of relay 2 which is the positive side of the coil for relay 2, your fog light switch is wired to pin 85 of relay 2 and completes the ground for the coil on relay 2 when the fog light switch is turned on.
Your power for the fog lamps comes from distribution center at pin 30 on relay 2 and pin 87 of relay 2 goes out to the fog lamps them self.
Pin 86 of relay 1 is hook into high beam circuit, so when you turn on the high beams it energizes number 1 relay thus closing circuit to pin 87 and opening circuit at pin 87a thus cutting the power to relay 2.
I have the schematic for this but cant seem to post any images or files to this forum.
Hope i have not confused anyone to much.

This is schematic of highs on.

Hopes this makes things little clearer.

The fog lights are on a different circuits then the headlights, in the photo he has of the power distribution panel you see to the left of fog lamp relay 2 there is a fuse that says "40 amp stop/head lamp". And top right corner is the 15 amp fuse for the fog lights.

my fog lights are all connected (all four) to a 4 post relay with new, thicker wires and they stay on all the time (high and low beam) via the factory fog light switch. i don't think the cops really care around here.
