Default Transmission lifespan?

Well, the inevitable happened. I recently posted a thread about a 1740 code and an RPM fluctuation. I was driving around the other day with a scanner hooked up, trying to figure out my problem and she went downhill very quickly. Long story short. It makes a sound like a Ford power steering pump and doesn't like to shift out of first. Considering the mileage, I've decided it better to just replace the transmission rather that trying to fix it.

I'm chocking this one up as a failure. My current mileage is about 118,800 miles. For those of you who have already had their transmissions rebuilt or replaced, how long did your transmission last?

That code and the limp home mode (stuck in first happens when the code is thrown) could be a $200. fix...I had the 1741 code and same behavior and it was just a bad govener pressure sensor and soleniod at 140k on the odometer...

This past Friday, I started having tranny issues. The funny thing is that I also got the same code as you, 1740. I just took it to the shop today, so we'll see what happens. I'll keep you posted, maybe it'll cost you the same to fix it as me. Whatever you decide, good luck friend. I've been loosing sleep over this the past few nights...Feel free to read my thread, "Son of a b!tch...it finally happened"

Thanks, man. Hopefully your endeavor won't be as expensive as mine sounds. I know exactly what you mean about losing sleep...

Mine is going right now. I have had that code for the past year. I am going to the Tranny shop Feb 15 to find out what is wrong, and to file a claim with my warranty.

Currently at 92k

I bought my truck with around 28k on the odometer. The trans failed at 32k. Had it rebuild under the factory warranty, and it failed again at 36k. Rebuild again, and it has been solid. I have 100k now.
