Turbo or Supercharged? 96 ram 5.2
Alright....
So I am getting my motor and tranny rebuilt for around $5000 (aiming high) and when the truck is done, I wanted to put either a supercharger or a turbo in it. Right now, the truck has 256,000 miles on it and it still runs like a baby but if I put a turbo or supercharger...it will stress the engine. So I am trying to figure out what to put in it.
It is 2WD...so nothing else to do other than make it fast
Any suggestions or comments?
Chad.

For right now, I just want to slowly put more stuff into it. I have been wanting to do this for a long time but just recently been able to afford everything. If I go with the turbo, I want to eventually get twin turbo...but I will need a tranny that will be able to support that...but I am not very educated with all that good stuff.
I personally like superchargers but there expensive, and im not sure if anyone one is still making them for our trucks, but KRCperformance has both a single turbo and twin turbo kit for our trucks, there around 3k I think.
Heard mostly good things about them might want to call them up see what they say

You will get better performance from a supercharger, also you wont get any lag from a supercharger. Maybe more expensive but you will thank your self in the end, turbo's have alot of lag and alot of blow off and alot of time and money wasted.
Put the same car side by side, one with a supercharger one with a turbo and the supercharger would blow the turbo outta the water.

I beg to differ, It all depends on how your turbo is built
compressor housing, AR etc etc if its small enough it will spool quickly and no lag, but it also needs to be big enough to support what you trying to do with it.
I'm a drag racer (mustangs) and you wouldnt believe all the folks that have swapped from a SC to a turbo set-up. unless of course its a direct drive procharger/drool drool lol
Everyone will have a different opinion of the debate SC vs TC so dont take anything I say/type to heart or the wrong way for that matter, i'm only talking about my experience with it....

I can agree to a certian extent but you have to realise that turbo's only run at higher RPM's, superchargers are belt driven an it is a continous power supply.
Turbo's are great for dragracing because you run 99% at full throttle so ofcourse you're going to see more power because it takes less to spool the turbo because they run on exhaust fumes.
there is no end to this debate it's been around as long as turbo's and superchargers have. I have had both superchargers and turbo's and personally i recommend superchargers to any one who ask's because 1 out of 10 people are on a drag strip, If you want instant power to the wheels at a redlight or just passing a car or towing, a supercharger is way more effective than a turbo.
