No wheel stops on Dana 60
I was under the truck today and I noticed that there are no wheel stops to prevent turning the wheel too far in either direction. What happens is I bootom or top out the steering stabilizer putting tremendous strain on it and then the tie rod arcs. No biggie, as I rarely turn that far, but all my previous trucks has adjustable or welded in bolts to stop you from turning too far. There appears to be a provision for this on the knuckle, but when I tried to put bolts in them they did not line up with the stop on the axle. Anybody got a shot of their wheel stops? Here's my knuckle:
im wondering if mine have them now, sometimes when turning into a parking spot i actually drag the front tires. and in 2wd. Iv got 33's and im wondering if it's just because of the width of the tire thats doing it but now that you mention this im wondering if it's just simply turning too far.
The knuckle never makes contact with that. That's what I thought a bolt in the hole on the knuckle in front of that stop would contact, but when I put the bolt in they did not line up.
Heh heh heh....heh heh...
Sorry folks but Ma Mopar did away with the fancy adjustable bolts...I'm thinking the late 80's. They always rusted up and were snapped off anyway. Well, up North anyway.
One guy I know added a bit of weld to the axle side of the stop and pencil ground it to the correct length.
Or you can try drilling and tapping it....

Yeah, I know they were on my previous '70s era Dodges. I thought about doing the weld thing, too. My concern is that off-road I might get into a situation where I turn the wheel too far and I could probably snap the dampener right off or damage it.
