Cool Was It The Smoking Gun

Waiting six days for replacement of defective steering gear box and service manager says it will arrive from Michigan tomorrow. He drove with the truck's horrendous steering and expects perfection once it is installed.
Do you all think he is blowing smoke up my **s or being honest?
Have been searching the net nonstop for another truck since hearing bad news of them installing defective steering sear box last week. What a headache, looking for a truck to buy while not knowing if the one I have is salvageable!

You're thinking of ditching a low mileage truck over a steering box? That's nuts.

Have spent almost 2 thousand on the problem since it came to my attention. This is dealers's 3rd shot fixing it and I don't feel confident it will be perfect this time either. Next I'll bring it to a small local shop or two but what if that doesn't work out?
I know it seems stupid already looking for a new truck but I feel like being backed into a corner. How much can I spend?

why do you keep starting new threads over the same issue? you'll get better response if people can follow the problem from the beginning and understand what you have or haven't done.

the steering is a weak point on these trucks. the steering box may help, but i'd bet its not going to be like new unless you replace everything including tie rod ends and track bar and steering shaft.

Think I have put 35K miles on it the past 8 years and never before had a single problem. I have kept it tuned and flushed and always used high test gasoline (14.5 MPG) and the engine humms like brand new.

Thanks.
But since they checked the suspension and steering systems wouldn't they have noticed something. Why wouldn't they at least suggest to me other potential problems?

What's so crazy is new Michelins and 3 ball joints were installed before a steering problem even arose. The sucker wouldn't stay on the road after leaving shop. As I told the service manager today and he agreed the truck is a death trap.

Soooo...what's it actually doing? Wandering? Pulling? Shaking? Play in steering wheel? Wandering and play in steering wheel can both be track bar problems. ALL of my steering issues have been related to that stupid track bar.

R u on drugs man ? it's a suspension problem. Take it to a suspension shop not the dealer, **** the warrenty if you want it fixed goto a shop not the dealer.

Dont punish the truck for their mistakes

Thank you.
It wanders, no pulling or shaking, its runs like a dream. I has about 1 inch play in either direction turning the steering wheel. With tires straight it drives a straight line for a long distance.
Would they, should they have checked the track bar while looking at the suspension?
