Thumbs down Hughes engines

Anyone else had a ****ty time with this company? I ordered and F.I air gap manifold for my 2001 5.9 ram and it had a major casting defect in one of the runners, basicly a marble size hole. And I've had nothing but a hassle. They said they want me to send it back so they can weld it, or they would send me 40 dollars to have it welded here. Which to acess where the hole is you would have to cut a hole in the bottom of the manifold to get to the hole in the runner. But apparently cannot get me a new manifold. And if I want a refund there is 20% restocking fee on it. I was like your kidding me the part is defective. So I'm asking if anyone else has had and customer service problems with this company.

See, it is that kind of stuff that would **** me off to no end. Thing is... I bet if you do return it they will just weld it and pass it on to someone else. I think there are a few threads about their customer service around... the one I can remember faintly is someone ordered a plenum pan and was delivered warped. Im pretty sure they gave him the run around too.

If anything, talk to them again and tell them that if they don't fix it, you'll tell everyone you know about it. Then email them this thread. Let them know that as soon as they fix the problem, you'll post a thread about how great they are. Milk it...

Bad customer service to me is the biggest sign of a bad company. I can't stand companies that give their customers the run around, when were the ones making THEM rich.

I have dealt with them many times, and, yes, they have some issues.

-they don't always pick correct parts for the kits.

-some parts were omitted

-they don't have parts directly in stock

-Yes, yes, and another yes: they have a serious supplier issue to where, they don't have enough stock to cover a warranty issue as in your case.

This is the No 1 issue there: SUPPLIER / VENDOR relations.

I went to order a TB from them. SIX months later- still not in. WHY: SUPPLIER problem.

Same thing with Edlebrock out in So Cal. They don't have squat in stock, they fired all their help and now, they are down to using someone in HR TO PACK OUT ORDERS.

This results in getting the wrong heads plus, they only shipped half the order. The order was for two heads, NOT ONE. They shipped out the old LA style vs. the RMP heads that we ordered.

Then, they have a serious issue with packing where, you only get one gasket vs. two.

This same thing has been an ongoing issue at Hughes. I have talked to them about these issues and, they are well aware that they have a serious issue.

To the point where, they CAN'T get those air gaps when customers order them and, there's a possible quality control issue where, some had complained that the wrong STYLE was sent out. This was a DEMO model that had some ports that were omitted on later DWG revisions.

Basically, they were scrounging around to fill orders by using up OLD STOCK.

So, Edlebrock, WHO FABS those at their foundry in the desert in So Cal, is the root cause for not being able to supply those.

This is why Hughes didn't simply SEND YOU A REPLACEMENT after asking you to return the DEFECTIVE one because, they simply can't get another one. The lead time is excessive at best.

Now, this is the first time I have heard of a hole in the casting- this is classified as a GROSS defect and should have never made it past QC at Edlebrock-period. So, again, this is another issue if Hughes is having it drop shipped from Eddy to a distribution center and then out to you or, directly to you hence, the RESTOCKING FEE which, THEY SHOULD BE EATING since THEY sold the product.

This setup SUCKS and, it's a lose-lose situation if there's a problem like this. It's fine when the stuff works but, not when it's an issue.

I was missing parts and had to eat it. Luckily, it was consumables so, it wasn't a big deal but, yeah, in your case, I'd be fighting that one with an iron fist. They should be eating it or, someone should simply send you another and cover the shipping costs to boot.

My plenum kit should be here today, I will be sure to check everything and make sure its all good.

When I worked at a auto dept, "the customer is always right" was beat into our heads all the time. Ya gotta please the customer, or else that customer tells a friend about the ****ty experience, then the friend tells their friend, etc. To me, if you let a bad product leave the line, then wont take responsibility to make it right, then Hughes is in the wrong hands down. Why would you want to get a brand new, expensive intake welded because it was defective, when the next guy gets a perfect product? You paid for quality and a well built product, so you need to get just that! I would b!tch and complain until you got a new one! Just my .02
