Default Need some help with lifting...

I have a 1994 Ram, with a reg cab and short bed and the beast of a 360. Currently, shes sitting on 265s. I would like to put 33s or somthing in that area on. Now, since shes stock, i would have to lift her a little bit to squeeze them tires under the fenders. Right now, im a little low on cash and want to do this a little bit at a time. First, how would it look if I just added, say a 3" body lift? and then next paycheck or two add the bigger tires? then later on put on a 3 or 4 inch suspension lift? can i get some input? maybe some pics?

What I want to do is make it a good truck for off roading, yet look good driving down the street.

Any Ideas? hell, if you guys got any better ideas, I want to hear them. Im open for anything. I just want my baby to look good and be able to get out of a nasty mud hole.

Let me know what yall think.

285 70 16 (or 17) won't rub at all on stock suspension. 33" tires will probably scrub the back of the front fenders when you turn and hit a bump at the same time. 285 75 16 (or 17) will probably rub the control arms in a full lock turn.
If you want your truck to pull itself out of a nasty mud hole then you need to look into either limited slip or a selectable locker for the rear and either limited slip or a selectable or even an automatic locker for the front.
A Ram with a 3" body and a 3-4" suspension lift would look a little funny with only 33" tires, unless they were really wide and stuck out of the fenders a good bit.

if your on a budget, I recomend the top gun customz 3" budget suspension lift, spring pucks for the front, blocks in the rear, and it even comes with new 8000 series rough contry shocks for the front....all for around $200 and you can have it on in a few hours over the weekend.

I agree with sheriff a truck with 7+ inches of lift would look terrible with only 33's on it
a 285/75 is a 32.x tire and thats what I have on mine and its stock ride height and I have 0 issues with mine, so you can get more meat under the fenders without a lift if you budget wont let ya.

I checked out top gun customz. They got great prices. Is it all legit? And I got my eye on a 5" lift. Im thinking maybe 37" tires. Whats a single cab short bed look like with a 5" lift? And what about the tires, too big? Too small with the 5" lift. Its just a thought. Anybody know any places to get a good price on tires?

They are legit. 35's are max for 1/2 ton axles. If you get 35's you will have to regear which is expensive. 37's will be stuffed with a 5 in lift and will rub.

Fair enough. So I 33" are about as big as I can go with out regearing? So if thats the case, it would be a waste of money to buy a lift kit. How would I go about regearing? where would I find the parts to do this? I would like to put atleast 35s on.

33" tires will clear in the rear with stock suspension. Go with a 2" leveling kit and you will probably be good in the front as well with under $100 invested. I'm sure you will be fine as long as you don't go over a 12.50 width, if they offer a 11.50 you will be better off. Depending on what kind of offroad use you are wanting to do, I would suggest the BFG All-Terrain tire. They go awesome and have a smooth ride and great wear for what they are. By no means do you need a 5" suspension lift. And don't fully lock the rear if you are going to use this truck for mostly street.

I was going to add pics but apperantly I'm too BIG.

I too have a "94 Ram 1500 SWB 4x4. I am running 39.5" Swamper IROKS and they do not rub at full flex. Of course I have a 6" DickCepek long arm kit with 3/4 axles, I use my truck for OFFROAD use only. It will cruise on the interstate at 70 mph with no problem but I don't suggest it, I am running a hydro assist steering and it is too unpredictable.

Ask yourself, what do I want this truck to do and what kind of ride do I expect?
