The pipe and the valve are two different things. The pipe doesn't involve a valve that opens and closes. If the valve is stuck open, i essentially have a huge vacuum leak. If it stays shut when the truck thinks its open i have problems also.

i used to have and EGR code as well. when i was replacing my transmission, i also ended up replacing all my vacuum lines as well. it was cured and the light hasn't come on since.

Well I just bit the bullet and put a new EGR on the truck. Will update in a week or so.
