Make a home made strap wrench with a ratchet strap (minus the ratchet) and a strip of rubber or a belt or something with some grip. Wrap the rubber around the pulley, hook the strap on the driver side of the frame where it won't put pressure on any wires, then wrap the other end around the rubber going over the top of the pulley and tuck it under itself. The more pressure you put on the wrench, the tighter it will get.
Pulling a wrench helps your chances of no slicing up your hands also.
If you aren't in a hurry then I could just wrap it up on my truck tomorrow and take a picture since I have the front end opened up anyway.

unbolt waterpump and lift out pump, fan, and shroud all at once.
cut the short w/p bypass hose if necessary, because you're going to replace it anyway.
once out, put w/p in a vise and remove fan.

This is the setup I was talking about. Any old piece of rubber ought to work. The rubber off one of those broken strap wrenches would be perfect.
If the picture is too big for y'all, let me know and I'll change it to something smaller. I normally use the 500x375 pixel pictures because I know not everyone has a 22" monitor with the resolution set to 1680x1050. This one only takes up about 1/2 of the screen for me.
