ACTUALLY, i had no idea there was a special tool. the DIY postede on page 1suggested using a strap wrench to hold the pulley still. it was untill i got my hands on a hanes manual that i found out there was a tool for the job. which by the way didnt work cuz like sheriff said:

and by the way thanks sheriff for all your help, but honestly i could hardly read any of it due to your avatar!

It just the age of the water pump. after a while of using it, the bearings start to go south and it no longer works. the main way to tell if you WP is shot is to see if it's leaking fluid threw the weep hole installed by the manufacturer. glade to hear you got it fixed. while you have it off, change the bypass hose and grind the "front" tab off of the T-stat housing.

That tiny little hole is the weep hole? You might want to flush and chage your coolant , If you havent already, some ppl not saying you , but i heard if you mix exteneded life with green , it causes a reaction and eats away at the cooling system

Fellas the Spanner Tool will work with that water pump he posted pics of! The water pumps that have a bolt on pulley you just put the spanner tool onto the bolts that hold the pulley in place! If you have the pressed on pulley like mine and the OP does you just have to find some bolts to slide through the holes that are in the pulley is all. I haven't seen a water pump with a pressed on pulley that didnt have the holes to the outside of the pulley like the one he posted a picture of! Believe me I've definitely sold enough of them to make a statement like that but if you didnt have those holes please understand I'm in no way trying to call you a liar or put you down or anything of that nature.

Oh and I agree with everything about the weep holes and flushing that coolant system!

so what you're saying is i should've put bolts into the holes on the pulley and then put the tool around those?? that kinda makes sense but then i could see the bolts coming out of those holes???

In a word "yes" if you had the spanner wrench you could have just slid some bolts thru those holes that were long enough to go all the way thru and touch the waterpump housing and if they stuck out a little bit you could put the spanner on them and it would work just fine with out them falling out! the torque you would be putting on them by twisting the twisting the fan clutch nut will keep them in the holes! Done it a few times it works great! no bolts falling out at all

***READ THIS***

I had a leak on my 360 6 months ago and could not see where it was comming from either. So I did the whole water pump replacement thing. Now here I am 6 months later with the the front of my engin torn off again to include the timing chain cover. All this time the gasket was bad between the block and the timing chain cover. The water pump was cashed anyway but I wish I had change the T chain gasket then.

I would strongly recommend raplacing the T chain gasket BEFORE you put the water pump back on. I am betting that is where your leak is. If you dont do this I guaranty it will still leak when the system is pressureized.
