Thing is that gasket could have blown a long time ago. With how dirty your intake is that didn't happen the other day. You didn't get 235k out of it. God only knows when it went.

The first time he noticed the bad gasket he said it had 148k. The second time was 152k and now it has 165k and the gasket seems to have been bad for a while. If you want this motor to run strong and long, spend the extra dime my friend. Well worth it. I can FEEL the power I regained by getting this done. Also wouldn't hurt to change the distributer cap and rotor while you're back there. And don't do what I did and change the oil BEFORE you do this. You will just be changing it again. A good amount of coolant will come out of the intake and into your crankcase.

im in agreement...your plenum has been blown a long time...its stupid to go cheap cuz then you end up doing it twice. and take everything off that needs to come off...shortcuts are a horrible idea when it comes to fixing things...it will cost you at some point if you take short cuts...do it right the first time

Default why is not buying the hughes

taking a shortcut? I don't have the extra 100.00 it would take. right now if I can get 5-10k out of this one. i'll be thrilled. it will take me a year or two to put that on it anyway. and with two people i can't see it taking more than 4 hours. what has taken people so long to do this. local shops said they'd do it for 200bucks. ??

This is my advice. Cancel the orders for the new gaskets and whatnot. When you save up enough money to buy the APS kit ($135), buy it. Then you are not spending an extra $70 when you could just be done with it one time. The way I was born and raised was if you dont have the money, you aint gettin' (Whatever it is).

What are the pros and cons between the APS and Hughes kit? Honestly what are most people's preference for quality and reliability?
BTW- This BS should have really been a recall!

I wont argue with you, do what you want. I will most likely be cashing in an ITYS. (I Told You So). I did this myself, by the book, and it took me just under 2 days. I took my time and made sure I checked everything I did twice. If a local shop will do it for $200. Again SAVE UP FOR THE HUGHES KIT! Or APS. That's how much I payed for the kit, bolts, tb gasket, and other misc. It's a good learning experience, and when your buddies Dodge goes out you can make some money and do his too. But like I said I'm not going to argue with you if you are that stubborn. As for pros and cons. I'm pretty sure that the hughes and APS kit are identical. But the stock steel plate heats and cools at a different rate than the aluminum intake. Which causes the gasket to fail. So good luck my fellow Dodge Owner, and remember, If it's that big of a problem... CHEVY'S BREAK DOWN TOO.

Default well i've decided that the problem

I'm having right now isn't due to the plenum. So all of the stuff ordered and the gaskets I already have are going back to napa. Once I get this issue resolved I will save up for the air gap intake and just do that.

APS would be my preference if I didnt make my own. Honestly, I'd get the APS over the Hughes. For $135, the APS kit comes with everything you need, right down to a bottle of Locktite. Plus it comes with Mopar gaskets and bolts.
