Default Misfiring

Hey guys im coming here for hopefully some help.
i own a 1996 dodge ram 1500 4x2 5.9L.

I was driving home from work when i started to hear a skipping sound from the engine. then the whole truck started to shake. i found out that it was missfireing and as soon as the RPMs would drop it would stall on me. the oil pressure was fine too.

so hoping it was just a cheap fix i did the spark plugs, distributer, and wires. after i replaced them the truck now will idle but still misfires. i did a compression test and the compression is down 30 in like 2 cylinders and cylinder 5 is at 0 compressions.

i also did plug in the computer and the codes are saying: misfires in cylinder 5, 7, and 8., multiple misfiring, and an idling problem.

it wouldnt just be a gasket would it? or the just the valves too?

any ideas?

thanks

Dodge has had problems with the valve seal cracking with high mileage, Above 70k. The fix is to replace both cylinder heads with reman's. But if you zero compression on one cylinder, you'll still need to remove the one head and ck the piston.

First make sure you did a compression check the right way. Throttle body at WOT with all spark plugs removed. I did a lot of research when I rebuilt my 1998. The stock heads are crap. They all crack. Just go to a salvage yard and try to find a good set. I did and gave up. If you have a cracked head(s) ,I found new ones on Ebay. They are a heavier casted head and decent price. I did have to lap the valves but they were very nice otherwise. I wouldn't go the extra money for a set of performance heads. They won't change the performance enough to justify the extra costs. Just my experience and .02 cents.

Oh, make sure you do a "permanent fix" on the plenum gasket if you get that deep in the motor.. It's prone to failing and will, sooner or later..
