Just apply of very thin layer around the water ports and a bead at all for corners where the rubber gaskets meet the head.

I didn't like the gasket Hughes sent with their kit. It was the Victor Reintz brand if memmory serves. I liked the Fel pro gasket much better.

I got a steel gasket with my hughes plate. Went and bought the fel-pro gasket, installed without any sealer. Only been two weeks, so, jury is still out on if it works.

Sounds like it's a surprise when the Hughes gasket comes.

So, should I not worry about using any rtv on the gasket when installing the Hughes plate?

No sealer on the PLATE itself! You use it where the intake mounts to the block at the four corners and a thin layer around the water ports where the intake contacts the head. I highly suggest you get a Haynes manual.
