sounds like a clogged catalytic converter. or maybe fuel system. If you have not had the fuel pump replaced...then you should have. They seem to need to be replaced every 6 years.

Could be cat, plugs, wires, plenum, fuel pump. Get a haynes manual from pepboy or napa and give it a locking over see if it helps at all. Odds are it might be the cat but it wont hurt at all to check other things out. What about the sensors in the throtty body? Are they all gunked. If they are grab a can of seamfoam and run it threw there. Wont hurt to do that anyway.

Is there a code with the CEL? Get a code reader and see. Post the number or code here, it might help eliminate alot of guess work.
