MonteC's Transmission Corner (For Info Only)
Guys, its really tough to trying and figure out a problem after someone else has been into the transmission. I try and assume that youve done everything correctly but thats just not the case. Ive done that myself. I ll have a problem and assume that everything i did is correct and come to find out i put a valve in backwards or something stupid like that. My suggestion would be to go back and go over what you did VERY closely.
The limp mode problem I am not sure.
Like I said, new solenoids, but it will start in third, only go into 1st and 2nd manually, and not into o/d.
If you could just give me a way to start testing these, or the computer, like you mentioned earlier, that would really help.
The only mechanical issue I have a problem with is this leak from the front. It seems to me that the TC is pulled out too far when I bolt the flex plate onto it. Is it possible to use spacers or something between them?
Hey new to the forum but not to Dodge.
I bought a 1995 dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.2L with the 46RH transmission in the back of the truck. I did not remove transmission. We are working on as a father and son project. My Son and I rebuilt the tranny and we re-installed it today. We could not test the engine as the torque convertor engages the starter and the transmissiion was out when I bought it. The look on my Son's face whenit started was worth the $850.00 I paid for the truck..My questions are: Where do the steel lines that come down the right side frame from the 4x4 actuator on the axle go? They run as far as the transfer case area and have rubber connections on the ends. Also there is a small tubing that is on top of the transmission, high up near the distributor and it looks like a vent as I connot find anywhere where it plugs in. Also need to know where the small spring near the shifter lever on the transmission where does it go? And lastly what about the routing of the kickdown cable? any help or pictures appreciated. Thanks

The small spring connects to the kickdown cable to give it some tension. Should be a washer with a tab and a hole, attached to the cable. The other end hooks to a similiar washer thing where the shifter lever (the main shifter arm) is bolted on. the routing of the kickdown cable doesn't really matter so much as it's not touching anything hot (exhaust) and doesn't have any severe bends.
Interested to see where it came from when I start tearing it apart.
the metal tubes are the vacuum lines for the 4x4 actuator they connect to the switch on top of the transfer case. search the forum to get a diagram of the routing. not sure about the rest.
Just one more question MonteC. We pressure tested it today and found out that the govenor was not getting any pressure at 1k 1.5k and 2k RPMs. I just need to know what controls the govenor pressure inside the valve body, or anywhere else. Thanks in advance. The transmission is a 2WD 46re.
Thanks Monte, I checked all my electrical connections, greased them with die-electric grease and un hooked the battery for about a half hour. Everything seems to be running good so far.
Hi, I bought a 95 1500 5.9L 4x4 about a week ago knowing it needed a transmission. I have done some searching on this site finding what other transmissions would work on it, But does it make a difference if the truck is 2wd or 4wd. To the best of my knowledge the transfer case is still good and it seems to be a lot easier to find 2wd transmissions than 4wd. So, will it work and if so, what issues will I encounter. Thanks.
Sounds like you may have a bad transmission fluid temp sensor. Put a scan tool on it to pull the codes and verify the reading from the TFT.
