Default Quick V10 "Generation" question

Sorry to ask this, but the search engine doesn't accept "v10"
as a valid word and I am pressed for time:

Is there a difference between the 1994-1996 V10's and the
2000's? I have a chance for a great deal on a 95, but my truck is
a 2000 and I cannot figure out if the motor will work as a backup.
They look identical (from a distance.)

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to DF.

Not sure on the V10s, but I know 1995 V8s and V6s were OBD I, 1996-1997 were weird hybrid systems, and 1998+ was OBD II. The V10 may be in the same boat, in which case the wiring may be different.

Type "v10" in quotes like I did.
From what I've heard the older v10 heads were prone to cracking

Mechanically, they should be exactly the same.

I passed up on the one I found last year - haven't come across another
cheap one since. No idea why these are getting so hard to find, but the
next one under $800 (condition pending) I think I am going to have to
take regardless of year. My current motor is getting weak and I haven't
found a reasonable Gen2 replacement yet...

It wasn't a real common option to begin with, a slightly cheaper alternative to der diesel. And I am going to guess that more than a couple of 'em fell victim to cash for clunkers.....
