Looking at the photo, it appears the ball separated from the socket? (the part laying loose on top of the control arm......) That is not a failure mode I expect from a newer balljoint....... Maybe if it had over 100K miles on it... but, not before.

 

Sorry I didn't post my success story. When the new ball joint popped, it ruined the upper control arm. I bought a used one cheap, had new bushings pressed in cheap, bought inexpensive trw ball joints that have a wide flair, pressed them in and had a neighbor tig weld them in place. Pulled the fifth wheel all summer and they are going strong. Take that dodge and your 400 dollar replacements!
