Upper ball joint popped out!
Replaced all 4 about a month ago. 1999 Ram 1500 5.9L 2WD
All was great until yesterday. Drove some grated country roads. Then last night I'm driving in town and 'bang'. I thought I drove over something until i realized my truck was pulling to the right. I look underneath and the upper left ball joint pushed out. I was able to drive it home but now I'm not sure what to do. It was pressed all the way in on installation.
Do I have to tack weld the uppers? I used the cheaper brand from Orielly's. Would Moogs have stayed in place? Anyone else have this problem? Is this why Dodge no longer has removable uppers?
Hopefully I didn't bend the stabilizer bar or tie rod. I'll check tonight.

My Dad's 3500 did that one time a while back, his were pressed in correctly as well... He pressed it back in and put a very small spot weld on both sides and it has been fine ever since (about 30k ago) From what I can remember, it did not damage anything else on his.
Edit: He did buy the more expensive set for his... This was the same one that came back loose until he put the spot weld on it. Hope that helps.

My 1998.5 3500 Dodge Ram 5.9 just popped a passenger side front upper TRW ball joint that was only in a couple days. Frankly, Dodge takes the best engine and builds the cheapest junk around it. Apparently, you can re-press the lowers but on some models...mine....you should replace the uppers with new control arms. I'm going to try the weld solution.

!998 Dodge ram quad dually ball joint failure
No lift kit. The truck has 119,000 miles and I just drive it to work and pull a fifth wheel a few times a year. I won't even go into the in-tank lift pump and fuel relay failure that took 2 weeks to diagnose and jury rig a fix, unless someone wants me to. Don't even bother to buy the dealer only $500 in tank replacement!
