Well, I haven't even looked into it, but I feel positive that they are rebuilt motors pulled out of totaled trucks. Now, you could get a motor and have zero issues out of it, or you could get a motor that some retard had his hands in. Luck of the draw.

As for power? It will be factory spec, so no upgrades. They just use OEM/AM parts to put them together, and not focusing on the performance crew.

Do you think they put the OEM heads that are prone to cracking on those engines?

BE a man and rebuild your own. You'll be happy you did.

There are a lot of sources for engines out there on the net. From stock, to completely unreasonable. Question becomes, what do you want, and how much are you willing to spend?

I don't really care for autozone, I will not buy parts from them. Too many bad experiences.

To some people on here, that's the correct answer, but there is a good deal of people who post in this section that I would hate to see rebuild their own motors. If you don't have tools, time, or the skills then it's not a good idea to tear into a motor that's probably your daily driver to begin with. Yes, it's a learning experience, but not everyone can afford to learn this way.

Then I guess I should have recommended seeking out a reliable engine builder rather than the OP seeking out the "Wal Mart of the engine world".

How much is Autozone asking for the rebuilt motors? I got my remanufactured from a company called Jasper and IIRC it was around $2500. I got a real good feeling from reading the Jasper site before I bought, but it wasn't the cheapest thing going to be sure. They have a world class facility and extremely thorough pre and post assembly inspections. Based on my reading and talking to one of the mechanical engineers downat work who's also into hot rods I came away with the feeling the Jasper engines are probably even more consistent than what Dodge produced new. Not any more power probably but just very very good manufacturing tolerances. At that point in my life I just wanted it done right and quick. I seem to have gtten what I wanted. The thing runs great! well, for a mild small block pushing a 3 ton hunk of steel around through 4.11:1 gears and 36" wheels that is.

ive heard nothing but bad from jasper...and have had personal experiance with jasper...they are no good IMO

and as for autozone, since i did work there, they are rebuilt motors, not everything on the motors is new, so like laramie said, its the luck of the draw.

so do these 'walmart engines' come with a faulty plenum gasket as well? As in built to dodge specs?
