Question 2001 ram swap with 96 ram

I am 95% complete with a swap of a 2001 ram 360 4x4 into a 96 ram 318 4x4. I used all wiring, dash, motor tran transfercase seat steering wheel etc... When it hit the key it fired once the fuel got through the injectors. No error codes. My issue is that now the trans feels like it starts in 2d and will not shift up or down. I can get it to drop into 1 if I down shift, but will not come out on manual shift. Does any one have any ideas what I may have missed? I surely needs some additional ideas. Thanks

Did you use the trans harness out of the 01? the trans itself? possible the connectors have a different pinout on the newer harness.

you swapped the PCM right? That's the only thing I can think of.

However, I seem to remember that my 1996 had a different button location to turn the OD off. Maybe that might be the problem. 2001 has it on the shifter ****, and I think the 1996 had it in the dash somewhere.

you probably need to dial in the TV cable. Maybe use the TV from the 1996.

Come to think of it...it should be the same process as someone who dropped a 408 into their vehicle.

YOu probably did not need to do the whole wiring harness thing. but you were swapping the tranny and TC.

Many of the connectors were different so instead of becoming the splice king I thought safer to swap all that was reasonalble. Two differences I am weighing heavily are the lack of the electrical connector at the rear of the transfer case and the different style sensor on top of the differencal. Do you think the excitor ring and senor are that different that plugging the 01 diff sensor into the 96 housing will not provide the correct signal for the 01 PCM?

Can I splice the 96 sensor into the 01 harness w/o causing other issues with the PCM?

you need to splice the correct sensors in. i had to do that when I replaced my underhood wiring harness.

YOu will have to be the splice king for that. Every connector needs to be connected.
