[quote=dsertdog56;2135648]I love following Jeeps...It really pisses them off when you do something with a truck they don't think you can, or shouldn't.
EDIT: Expect some body damage...and occasionally begrudging respect.

stay away from the big mud if you wheel with jeeps and yotas; not gonna do much for a stuck Ram. (been there
props to the expect body damage i'll wheel with ya its not all about 'who can get through what' we aim for 'get everyeone through safely'. attitude is the best tool one can have on the trails.

last word on 'body modification' haha, a trim job to fit that lil' larger tire can be a good thing; but just as a 12" lift might not be the best for huge tires, neithers takin off the whole fender but both together can work well. with my YJ, i took a bit off the corners, which is covered up nicely by teh TJ flares but as i've said, i'd much rather spend that extra 1000$ on gears/lockers than that super cool expensive lift!

If I had a dollar for for every Jeep guy who said.. "That big Dodge won't make it...OMG did you see that?" I could replace my nerf bars...

I dunno what kinda muddin you do in Calgary, but in Northen Mn, Eastern Iowa/Western Illinois or even here in Oklahoma, big trucks are what makes it through the mud. Any Jeep thats competitive has a stretched wheelbase...and a big *** V-8. Same with mini trucks. They may weigh less, but nothing keeps things churning like horsepower. And heck, half the fun is getting pulled out by the 4wd John Deere with duals!

My last word on "mods"...if one is simply using lack of funds to to cut away stuff rather than starting with a proper lift and the attending mods like gears, or for fear of being a bit "ungainly" off road then you haven't realized the advantage of longer/wider/ over shorter/narrower.
Also...the problem that I have with these mods is that inexperienced, neophyte Ram owners see this as a quick and easy way to clear big meats without any consequence. So they really go at it, usually in a slipshod manner which ends up with them nearly or completely ruining a good vehicle. . Sometimes one they still owe on. Then they come in here asking how they can repair the problem (without spending any real money), and usually it can't be done. Thusly the poor truck ends up being fobbed off on another schlep, and we get the "Dodge Sucks so I sold it post."
These mods were around long before you guys thought of them. Why do think there are laws against that stuff? And I've also survived enough of them to tell you in most cases it doesn't work. Well, it does until it doesn't then lookout!
Personally I want the lift, gears, tires, AND the lockers... and I'm to practice some restraint until I can. That way, I won't have to trim/cut/ orfold anything unless I need too. Again, the problem is that people see those "easy" mods as a way to get big tires ...without understanding that there are consequences.

EDIT: I'd read some comments from others, and understand that people sometimes sell thier lifted rides because they didn't build the urban assault vehicle with Porsche handling they'd hoped to have based on the money they spent.
Call me what you want but my truck is exactly where I expected it to be, based on my mods. So I drive it based on its "shortcomings" not what others think it should be or do.

That's the way I see it, If I know my truck will get damaged on an obstacle or swamped in a watery mud hole that is deeper than the floor then I'm not going to try it. That sticky mud is a different story though...

There's something about trucks, mud, and the mysterious and almost uncanny way the wheel jerks itself out of your hands in an attempt to go right in ...
However, I am willing to accept a little damage if it makes a Jeep owner toss a fit, scratch his head, or...it makes his wife say "We should have bought a truck so we had some room!" Thank goodness there are enough narrow 5 rated trails to even things up. I am limited by width.
