You would still be able to turn the cruise on, and the light in the steering wheel should come on, even with the vehicle in park...... You just wouldn't be able to set the speed.

Need to find out why the button won't turn it on. All I have is the 01 manual.... and I know they changed the switches at some point. Still in the steering wheel, but, different locations. Not sure if the diagram would still work out or not.

This is interesting as I'm having cruise control issues with my automatic 1997. When in Park, I can activate the cruise control (Light Illuminates), but either the right bump or some vibration turns it off. Then, I cannot get it to turn on again. If I can get it to turn on, while driving, I cannot Set the speed while driving.

I disconnected the brake switch and went for a test drive. The Cruise would activate (light on) and nothing more. I couldn't set the speed. Once the brake switch was reconnected, I could get the light to come on but no speed Set. Shortly after, the light went out. I'm wondering if it isn't the cruise control cluster. Any ideas?

I took out the switch and took it apart. Everything looks good. I did notice that there is only 3 pins coming out of it and there is 4 wires going to the plug. Am I missing a pin, or do I have the wrong switch? Still trying to find a wiring diagram so I can trace the wires. It has to be a wiring issue. I am not getting the light to turn on.

Can someone tell me if you step on the brake and turn the cruse control on, does the light come on. I'm thinking maybe a bad brake switch?

The number of wires and connector terminals is correct. Do not be fooled by thinking it should be a 1 to 1 relationship. IIRC, there are only a couple of wires that connect to the instrument cluster considering all of the functions it performs.

This has got to be a loose connection somewhere...... Where though..... No idea.

The light (in the steering wheel) should come on when you turn the cruise on, regardless of gear, speed, or whether you are stepping on the brake or not. If it doesn't, that is the first problem you need to address. Brake switch will only disengage the cruise, it will not turn it off.

I haven't been able to come up with anything online for it either. Maybe someone with the haynes manual could scan it and post it? I don't have the 'right' manual, just the PDF file from here..... (the 01)
