It will start up, which is a little hard, and you can drive it down the road, but after so long, probably less than a mile it will die out, then you can wait for about 5 minutes, and start it back up and drive again, and it repeats, they said they took it to a mechanic and he said fuel pump. This sound right to you guys?? its a 1994 Ram 1500 v6.

 

How many miles?
Has anyone done fuel pressure test on it should be around 50psi?
I had similar issue after replacing crank sensor on mine with a NAPA sensor, replaced NAPA sensor with OEM sensor, problem gone. Around 80 dollars for OEM sensor.
So it could be crank sensor.

the fuel filter could be clogged. THe fuel filter is really a pressure dampener and it is on the fuel pump. Ussually people replace the whole unit. And with that mileage, it is about right for a new fuel pump.

That is why you never let the truck go past 1/4 tank. after that it pputs too much strain on the pump.

 

I always thought keeping your fuel level up was for pump cooling?

Of course, I also seriously wondered about the wisdom of sticking an electric motor into a pool of gasoline........ that just seems..... odd. Maybe its just me.

 

a fuel pump can cause problems like that.
its fairly expensive at 200-300 for parts, plus some labor. raise bed or drop tank.

are you sure you want a V6. it will be a little weak...

I dont think ill need to tow anything to heavy if anything at all. Sometimes I will buy cars with mechanical problems, fix em, and sell em. Would that be troublesome to pull a car with the V6? It'd be the tow type system that you attach to the frame of the nonrunning car and hook up to the hitch.

Yah I noticed that the fuel pumps are pretty expensive, thats why I talked him down 200 bucks haha. I also found some pumps on ebay for 60 bucks. Forgot to look at shipping though, ill have to go back and check that out sometimes its like 40 bucks shipping lol.

Depending how big the cars youre thinking of are, you probably would be better off to go for a v8.

As far as a fuel pump, it may be better worth buying a new one, even though its more money, just b/c it'd be pretty gay to have to go through and do the PITA fuel pump twice because the used one you got had 200,000 miles on it. But to each their own.

And I'm going to go with my gut feeling and say that the "repair kit" is a complete waste of money.

 

Yah I'd rather just buy a used one than do the repair kit.

Is there any ways to get this truck home with out towing it?? I have about 10 miles to go and the guy said it probably wouldn't make that, any way to jimmy rig it? Maybe taking the gas cap off might help?
