Default What Comp CAM to use

Just looking for advice on a camshaft...I have a 1995 1500 with 318 /5.2 . I want to put a performance camshaft inside ....I do not care about rough idle or a check engine light . Looking for some power while mudding. Please give me any info you may have and suggest and some feedback if you have installed one . Thanks In Advance !

changing just the cam won't really help much. Especially if you leave the current intake/heads/exhaust manifold on there. Sure, you might get a bit more performance, but, the rest of the system will choke the cam.

You would be better off going with headers, a free flowing exhaust system, and a better intake, probably heads, and do the cam with the heads.

go to their site and fill out the cam suggestion form. they will let you know what one is best for what you want. i did and they came back with the 264r-14. still havent purchased yet though. got a couple others i am looking at too. cannt really decide.

i am also not doing the cam without heads.

You don't need to change the heads and intake to see gains with an aftermarket cam. The stock heads flow well enough to support a mild cam, and with the kegger mod, it'll take a big cam to outflow the stock intake.

Just get 1.7RRs

Compare the lift you get with them to "computer friendly" camshafts.

Also, about the KRC 206 cam. Email them and ask them to grind you a 200/206 .480/.480 That is the RV cam.

Read that thread. It will cost you about 2500 to get your engine like that one. The heads should be the Iron Ram heads from hughesengines.com the $799 ones with the stainless steel valves

Lift is only one characteristic of a cam shaft, there are several other factors to be considered. Using 1.7 ratio RR's will net you a few HP, not nothing extremely noticeable.

For the record, KRC is overpriced IMO, go straight through Comp Cams.

if i had it to do all over again i wouldnt have bought the 1.7rr's. not that there isnt a little bit of a gain there. just saying you can get a cam for the price of the rockers. and the gains would be more with the cam.

and the gains would be more if you got better heads.plus they are prone to cracking.

still have my stock ones. they only have about 55k on them. thanks anyway.lol

the 1.7's might be for sale here before long though.trying to figure out my own cam now. think i might go with the comp cams 20-604-9. the same thing as krc's 210x cam.(actually it is the krc210x cam) and can find it for about 50$ cheaper. not a good low end cam, but when i throw that procharger and gears on there...look out. got alot of stuff to buy before that happens though.a/f ratio set up, converter, sct,eq 2.02heads,timing chain,1.6rr's,gaskets,and so on.

but to be honest havent made my mind up yet on the cam.
