I have real issues with electrical parts from autozone..... left me stranded far too often.

I really don't see why there would be a difference between auto, and manual trans.... after all the sensor is in the diff, I don't think it particular cares what is upstream... that does not imply that there isn't a difference...... auto manufacturers have done sillier things....

AdvanceAuto's site shows a selection of different sensors, with and without abs, and manual, or auto trans... only difference i see between the auto/manual units, is the manual has the neat little metal bracket on it?

Beats me. Just to be on the safe side though, get one that actually shows it is for your particular application.

Thanks for bringin this thread back up, I wanted to mention that the big clump of melted plastic dad had on his manifold did not contain any wiring . Pretty sure it was just soom wire loom, possibly from the plug wires. We looked at mine and there is no wiring anywhere around that immediate area, and my plug wires have loom on them too.

I told him about the VSS in the rearend and he's gonna pick one up.

edit: my sensor is in the rearend on my 98 too...

Howdy

So I've got this problem as well, 1999 Ram 1500 5.2v8 4x4 Manual trans.

Thats the part that autozone sold me, but the part I pulled out of the rear end, looks like this BTW is completely different. My hayes guide is driving me nuts, as it tells me to look at the end of the transaxel. (nothings there.)

*EDIT*
I suspect the part in the rear i pulled out was a ABS sensor.
Can Anyone help me?

ARGH!

Excellent. I'll exchange the part tomorrow and replace the ABS sensor that tells the truck how fast its moving. ROFL. It feels so good to be at peace.

I wanted to dig this thread back up to mention that the old man finally replaced the VSS on the rear end and it fixed everything. Speedo works now, ABS and brake light went out, and all seems to be working fine.

Just a heads up to anyone else with this problem
