Amsoil sounds great, but I've heard some rather disturbing things.
I've heard, for example, that you should change Amsoil oil almost as often as any other synthetic. They claim some huge 25000 mile number or something on their website, but I've heard many reports from people who have had that oil tested, and 5w30 or 10w30 ended up being 20w50 after that many miles.

I've heard the same Jason, I change my oil every 3k regardless if it is synthetic or not. I realize even dino oil doesn't break down until 15k miles or so, but I'd rather play it safe and keep fresh oil in all the time. Its only 6 dollars more a gallon between Mobil 1 Full synthetic and Valvoline synthetic blend, so I don't mind spending a little extra for a little extra protection.

ill just throw in my .02 cents..
Synthetics are better, but worse for our engines as well...in the short run, yes synthetic will be better, but in the long run, since our motors were made to have conventional oil, it will leave a baked oil crust on the internals of the motor.
If you are going to run synthetic, you need to find a detergent to cope with the oil, so you wont have baked crust....
think about it, if some of that crust comes off, gets between piston, and cylinder wall, it can cause some problems, by scratching the cylinder walls, as well as clogging up your pick up tube quickly...
So IMHO, your best bet is to just use conventional, and change every 3K, my motor is now getting cleaner, for what it looks like, since i changed back to conventional from mobil 1, and conventional actually is giving me slightly higher oil PSI.

I noticed a rear main leak after my first couple of oil changes. I did not know what was used in the truck prior to my ownership but I have used synthetic since the day I bought it. Maybe this change caused it. I was wondering what your "Easy Fix" is because I am interested...but I think my old man and my girlfriends old man are more interested since they both just paved their driveways and I keep leaving spots.
