Ive never heard of this, and i did the check valve delete and had zero probs whatsoever and i have 170,000 miles on my tranny. Im pretty sure montec does the check valve delete on all his 46re/rh rebuilds..I dont think he'd do it if it caused probs. Maybe he'll chime in..

^^ No check valve here, and I had my trans rebuilt last summer with various upgrades.

I was under the impression that the check valve was to prevent fluid drainback when you shut the engine down?

My truck is the first vehicle I have seen that had anything like that......

i have no check valve either....and i have no problems.

i just remember reading a thread where someone said that without the checkvalve it can overflow the cooler (i think) and cause shifting problems....

wish i could find the thread....

I believe it lets too much fluid drain out of the torque converter and you need to idle her a bit to get it filled back up before you start driving it again. If not, it will have some slipping until it finally locks in. After that it is like normal.

I know it is the torque converter, but am unsure if it puts too much fluid into it, or allows more fluid to seep out when parked.

One of the two, but neither will break anything.

I think we are getting confused with two different parts here. There is a check BALL in the trans, that prevents fluid going to the T/C in park, and then there is the check VALVE in the tranny line, up by the radiator..... what purpose this serves, beyond another point of possible failure, is beyond me.

I am thinking about ordering the K46 kit from PATC. This is supposedly a level 3 viper kit. Does anyone have any experience with this kit? Is it a good way to go?

The check valve in the cooler line prevents the TC from draining while the vehicle is shut down. Without it some trucks will need to sit in neutral for a few seconds while running to allow the TC to fill back up. Mine does not have the valve and does not have this problem.
