My 2001 Ram has a noise when turning from a dead stop, Same turning either way. Any idea what it might be?

Coming from the rear? Do you have some flavor of limited slip/locker in the back? Is this noise new?

It is the stock rear end, It is coming from differential, and started about two months ago.

Pull the cover, have a look at the fluid. (have a drain pan handy.....) With the cover off, take a look at the parts in there... anything look like it shouldn't?

Since you only hear the noise going around corners, probably going to be an issue with the spider gears.... (or, just low fluid......)

Rear axle..... only ujoints there would be driveshaft, and they would be noisey whether you were cornering or not.

What kind of noise? Clunking, grinding, whining? Any oil on the axle or the inside of the wheels?

It is a grinding or rubbing noise, lasts till you get around the corner, but only from a dead stop. Only oil is on the differential cover, I have added fluid and need a new rubber plug.

when turning, the spider gears turn to allow differentiation.
like said above, check the spiders.

is your rear end open, or LSD. if LSD, it might be a malfunction going on with it.

If LSD you need the addative to help the clutch slip a bit, or else it grabs too much and causes a bit of a crabing effect (a grind/growl/vibration) during turns (usualy more noticable at turns from stop and more so when hot)
