Default grill chrome bubbling/peeling

2001 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT

The chrome on the grill is bubbling/peeling. Can this be fixed somehow or do I have to buy a new grill?

getting it rechromed would probably be just as expensive as a junkyard grill in better shape.

It's probably time to buy a new grill. While prepping/painting the old one is an option, chances are pretty good that the underlying plastic is cracked anyway.

Getting the original rechromed would cost more than it's worth. For the most part, plastic rechroming is only a good choice if you're doing a concours restore of a classic when there are no OEM parts available, or restoring a classic whose plastic pieces are not available in the aftermarket.

I'm dealing with the same thing as you. Mine is bubbling along the top and down the side. I can also tell that the center section is cracked vertically right up the middle. Don't think the 2 are related, but time for a new grill regardless...

Your best option is to find a decent one at a JY

I got a white one off a 97ish sport in a junkyard and primed and painted it to match my truck.
A chrome one new was about 90 bucks, this was $10 for the grill and $10 for paint.
color matched grill Priceless..LOL

I agree with the others, find a decent one in the JY. I bought an aftermarket grille and not even 6 months being on, the crome is already peeling. Damn Taiwan junk...

^^^^ I do somewhat agree with that however it depends on who you buy from on ebay. Some guys have inferior cheap replacement parts and some guys with a good rep and feedback are ok to buy from.

Besides, if you go shopping at the JY chances are you not find a really nice one in good shape. For $50 - $70 you get brand new.

Here's the link to the one I got 2 weeks ago....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Looks great all one piece chrome and had no fitment issues at all...very pleased with it overall!
