Hey all,

Im going to replace my governor pressure solenoid and transducer this weekend. I have already dropped my tranny pan before, but I cant remember how much fluid I needed to fill it back up? Is the valvoline atf+4 a good fluid, or should I look for something different?

Also, is a NAPA filter ok, or should I spend 4x the money on a Mopar filter?

Napa filter is fine, Valvoline ATF+4 is good stuff, and you will need between 3-5 quarts to fill her back up.

 

If you've got an external trans cooler don't forget to grab a little extra fluid. I think mine holds about 1 to 1 1/2 more.

 

It's about 4-5 quarts. You can even go with the wal-mart brand Supertech +4 for $3.50 a quart. Here, read this: Read Purpl's post. It's the 2nd one and it's a quick read. I'd change the filter while you're down there.

 

its more like 6 quarts to fill it back up.
valvoline atf+4 is very good.
i didn't like the walmart brand. my trans felt different. less smooth.
remember to check fluid level with engine running, in neutral, NOT park and measure to the lowest point on the stick. mine's hard as hell to get full. it gets up near full, but then just keeps eating fluid, then all of a sudden - it stabilizes.

 

Are you sure it wasn't something else that made you truck felt like that? When I rebuilt my trans, I used 12 quarts of Supertech +4 and it shifts as smooth as silk. Doesn't feel sluggish at all.

That's odd, when I dropped my pan and changed the filter it was exactly 4 quarts to fill it back up.

 

Thanks guys. I will go and pick up some Valvoline, just since it worked well for me last time and you guys agree that its good stuff. I know to check in neutral, level ground, while running, but thanks for the reminder cause Im sure there are some people that dont know better and wonder why they are low when they check it in park.

 

according to haynes manual it states if you are doing a "drain and refill" - approx 4 qts

if it is a dry fill (which to me sounds like something similar to removing the entire tranny) it is approx 9 -16.5 qts (depending on model and options)
