Default wrecker special 3" (pics)

so i bought the truck and to say the least, she needed work. one of those areas was rear springs; they were completely sagged, and i had 3 busted leafs. so they rattled bad.

so picked up a couple leaf packs to swap in. low and behold, the new packs had add a leafs in them. added bonus. so the cogs got turning on how to lift the whole truck. so in my quest to fix my rear springs i decided to make a semi bastard pack.. added to it were the NON busted leafs, the addaleaf, and i added an extra overload for a little more lift.

for the front, i decided i'd try the diesel coils. picked some up out of a 01' 2500 diesel for 30$. i win!!!!

so i swapped everything in, and at the same time, swapped in a set of cheapo super lift shocks for the front as mine were shot to hell. to say i was surprised is an understatement. the coils damn near gave me 4" of lift! a little much for my rear. easy solution was to pump up the airbags a bit. so that what i've done
so as it stands, diesel coils and new shocks up front, rears a bastard pack and airbags. i'm debating running a 1 or 1.5" block in the rear and taking out the one overload. the problem i'm running into is shocks. but seeing as most of this lift came from the JY, i don't wanna pony up the cash for new longer shocks; even though i know i will eventually........ also going to add some extended sway bar links in the front.. that came off my old ZJ

OH, and what started all this was the wheels/tires. buddy pretty much gave them to me, so why not make them work??????

anyways, pics!!!!!

For being a bit rusty, bent and battered the old girl has some style. The lift looks great! Nice job with that thing.

If i were you, go around the bottom of ur truck with black truck bedliner! It would look very good and no more rust and you would also benifit from it when ur offroading. Nice truck!

ya. i had a tough time justifying big bugs on a proper lift. at least this way i can add parts as i go, like rear shocks (we all know they're needed!) but as paychecks come in, i can add some stuff like that.

sheriff, funny story bout the bug guard. i just leaned on it and bam. broken. it is comin off!

as for the bedlining thing, i'm ahead of you going to gator guard it white the bottom rockers for sure, and the bed rails, and probably the better part of the rear once i pop out the one dent. you'll be able to tell, but at least it'll be close in colour, and hey, its bed liner

other stuff kickin around is a 1 tonne steering box i need to throw in, i have a rear tail light, and well, lots of body work its a project, but comin along nicely.
i like the look of the second gens; they don't have that 'rig rocket' (what i call late model 3/4 and 1 tonnes use in the patch with 8" of lift and like, 37 - 38 NIttos) look to them; its old, and has some stories/character to her.

I'd grind out all the rust, bondo the crap out of it, then roll the entire truck in bed liner. Then paint the wheels black or gunmetal. That would be one sweet budget truck.
