You did. I guess because the hemi I swapped in had come with skim. When I plugged it in and tried to start it the transponder on the steering column wrote the software to the ecm you had traded me. I had the computer Vin flashed to the donor truck I got the Hemi from. Because I used the dash from the hemi I had to match the mileage too.

I think - IF you take you're truck to Dodge they will program that VIN Into you're system and make the truck recognize the ECM. Someone told me I would have to do that with mine , But I didn't have to.
I don't think that ECM has a security system. When I installed mine , The security system didn't go through the computer.. BUT I didn't have a coded key either..I used the key switch in the Dakota to run the truck , and I didn't mess with any of the dash or change the PDC..You might be able to change the ignition switch over to a non security switch, I don't know how that works ??

"I'm Pretty Sure". The VIN has to be the one that the ECM came from. You're making the computer think it's still in the truck it came out of..

I found a mobile guy to come program the ecm for me cost me 35 bucks the dealer wanted 600. The way the Skim security system works is the computer looks for the skim code in the key and the transponder sends it. I guess once the computer has had security activated in it you have to have a dRB3 scan tool to remove it. The dealer won't do it. I found a couple places online that will remove the security from the computer. Prices to remove it range from 125 to 150. I'm just going to find someone to program chip keys for me. Just need money ha ha

Yeah my understanding from what I read was that the motor won't work if the Vin for the motor isn't programmed into the ECM. I'm not sure though. I could be wrong.

Any way- I hope this helps, I was going to send you that a long time ago , But some but-hole sent me a KILLER Virus in my mailbox , I guess , and it crashed my computer so bad I can't even turn it on. I had to buy another computer. I didn't have the money so it took a while to get back online...

Yeah I appreciate it. In any case if it does need to be the Vin from the ecm I have that Guy who does it for cheap. I still need to finish swapping my valve springs, find the TB air hat ring seal, and finish my brakes, and figure out the rear tail lights.
