Painted Engine- Cool mod or ghetto?
My truck is literally in pieces right now, getting transmission rebuilt, plenum fix, kegger mod etc. I wanna paint the air intake manifold, shine up the alternator, and all other kinds of things. I searched around for previous forums and did not find anything useful, could this possibly damage my engine? If not how do I do this mod.
The way I see it is that if it's stock, don't paint it a bright color to show it off. It's like when you see crappy cars with the brake calipers red, and you know the didn't spend lots of money on them.
My friend is building a car from just the body (motor, tranny, etc.) He's taking everything apart and either cleaning them and making them shine if they're unpainted, or repainting parts to make them look new. If you have it all apart and have some time, take it and clean it all. Just make sure you know what you're painting and if it should be painted or not.

Paint will not damage the engine. You must use engine enamel as stated. You must also mask off any mating surfaces like the cylinder head deck, intake manifold deck, timing chain cover, etc. I also suggest taping off any bolt holes, freeze plugs and the like. If you have a hard time Masking off a certain place, you can cover it in grease and the paint won't stick, or will wipe away when you wipe the grease off, but don't over use that trick, as you don't want to wipe away the fresh paint as well.
what's the normal, old fashioned color for dodge engines ?
ford is blue.
chevy is orange.
what's dodge?
my personal opinion is to stick with the standard color and make it look nice and clean, and stay away from ghetto.
